Windows Insider Women in Computing Award 2019

Apply for the Windows Insider Women in Computing Award 2019 (Fully-funded to the Grace Hopper Celebration in Orlando, USA)

You could join Microsoft at the Grace Hopper Celebration for a week of networking, professional development, and inspiring discussion.

Eligibility:

Registered Windows Insiders can apply for the Windows Insider Women in Computing Award 2019.

  • To be eligible for the award, join the Windows Insider Program by registering at https://insider.windows.com/en-us/getting-started/#register.
  • The award is open to all women currently in the process of completing a university computer science or related degree program. Entrants must be currently enrolled in an accredited degree-granting institution in order to qualify for the award (first year college students through post-doc students are eligible).
  • Students who have accepted employment offers (2019-2020) at Microsoft are ineligible.
  • International students arriving from outside of the U.S. will be responsible for securing their own travel visas.
  • Award recipients MUST be available to attend both the Grace Hopper Celebration conference in Orlando, FL between October 1-4 and the one-day post-conference program on October 5, 2019, in Orlando.
  • Award recipients also agree to participate in at least one community event or promotional media campaign for the Windows Insider Program. Award recipients may participate in the above virtually, such as through video conference.

Eligible Entry:

To be eligible for the Windows Insider Women in Computing Award 2019, an entry must meet the following content/technical requirements:

  • Your video must be no more than one (1) minute in length and must not exceed thirty (30) MB in size;
  • Your contest submission form must include a personal essay of no more than 150 words;
  • Your video and essay must be in English only;
  • Your entry must be your own original work; and
  • Your entry cannot have been selected as a winner in any other contest; and
  • You must have obtained any and all consents, approvals, or licenses required for you to submit your entry; and
  • To the extent that entry requires the submission of user-generated contest such as software, photos, videos, music, artwork, essays, etc., entrants warrant that their entry is their original work, has not been copied from others without permission or apparent rights, and does not violate the privacy, intellectual property rights, or other rights of any other person or entity. You may include Microsoft trademarks, logos, and designs, for which Microsoft grants you a limited license to use for the sole purposes of submitting an entry into this Contest; and
  • Your entry may NOT contain, as determined by us in our sole and absolute discretion, any content that is obscene or offensive, violent, defamatory, disparaging or illegal, or that promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco or a particular political agenda, or that communicates messages that may reflect negatively on the goodwill of Microsoft.

Prizes:

The following prizes will be awarded:

Fourteen (14) Grand Prizes. Each winner will receive:

A trip for winner to Orlando, FL to attend Grace Hopper Celebration from September 30 – October 6, 2019. Approximate Retail Value (ARV) $3,000.00. Trip includes:

  • Round trip coach airfare from major airport closest to winner’s home.
  • Six (6) nights standard hotel accommodations.
  • Transportation to/from airport/hotel.
  • A $400.00 travel allowance for winner only.
  • Admission for One (1) to attend Grace Hopper Celebration on October 1-4, 2019.
  • Invitation to the post-conference Professional Development Day hosted by Microsoft and the Windows Insider Program team on October 5, 2019 that will include panel discussions on internship and early career topics plus mentorship opportunities.
  • If the event is cancelled for any reason, Sponsor shall have no further obligation to the winner other than to provide the travel portion of the prize minus the opportunity to attend event.

How to Win:

Submit a short video and brief written statement about your journey pursuing computer science and your vision for making an impact in your field in the future.

Your application will be judged on:

  • Fit to Contest Theme: We’re looking for compelling stories from high-achieving women who are passionate about computing and their goals.
  • Quality of Submission: We’ll be considering your ability to communicate effectively, including your potential for engaging with senior leaders within Microsoft, as well as members of the media.
  • Creativity: We want to see your spark! The originality of the submission will also be considered. (Tip: Entries will be assessed for the quality of the content, rather than the production of the video itself or how flashy it is. The best submissions clearly communicate the story behind your passion and the impact you would like to make.)
