Popular opinion is that Africans do not like to read. Well, all that can be changed with the latest innovation by a Lagos based technology startup, TalkingBookz.
TalkingBookz recently launched on the 2015 World Book Day, at the Mobile West Africa Conference. This company, which is Nigeria’s first major audiobook online store and publisher, has under its purview, over 3000 audio books which are available for consumers to download, including international best sellers. CEO and cofounder of Talking Bookz, Kolapo Ogungbile says, “We currently have over 10 categories of books, ranging from Religion, Fiction, Memoirs/Biographies, Business, Management, Self-help, Children Literature, and Health & Wellness.
Speaking on the idea behind this initiative, Aransiola Damilola, COO and co-founder of TalkingBookz says, “TalkingBookz seeks to disrupt the traditional book publishing market and redefine how Africans consume books”. The company looks forward to becoming the no1 publisher and retailer of African authored audiobooks in the World.
Just about anyone needs this app particularly as you travel around or exercising, relaxing, cooking and cleaning. For someone like me that lovs to multi task, this works pretty well for me even as I stay stuck in traffic from one end of town to the other as I go about my daily activities. This will afford me the opportunity to read more books in a year than I would have done.
TalkingBookz is already making an impact as it was recently selected as 1 of the 1000 most promising startups in Africa by Tony Elumelu Foundation, the startup has also been selected as one of the 30 African Startups that will pitch at DEMO Africa 2015 and recently got seed capital as initial investments from Marek Zmyslowski, the co-founder and managing director of Jovago.com
