WeChat users can now call mobiles and landlines

WeChat users in India, Hong Kong and the U.S. can now call mobile phones and landlines within the app.

The new calling service which is called WeChat Out can be seen when users click the ‘+’ symbol at the top right side of their home screen, as an option in the expandable menu. The service claims to offer “super-low calling rates” and “excellent call quality.”

At the moment, when a user starts using the service, he or she can redeem $1 in credit. Top up is provided via Google Wallet or the Apple App Store in-app payment or via Google Wallet. Hence, users currently do not provide any credit/debit card information.

Tencent says the new feature will soon be available in more countries.
