Unlocking the Cam*Era: A Review of the Tecno Camon 12

As a millennial, one of the most important things you look out for in a smartphone is the camera, right? High-end smartphones already check off that option from the list but they come at a price – and sometimes a massive one.

But what if you could get that camera goal in a smartphone without breaking your purse?

Yes, you can!

Some weeks back, Tecno mobile unveiled the 6th generation of its Camera-centric line, the Camon 12 series, which has the Camon 12, Camon 12 Pro as well as the Camon 12 Air; which all come at a sweet price point.

This piece details the features and specifications of the Tecno Camon 12 as well as our opinion about the device.

Design and Display

Asides its slim body, the first thing you notice on the body of the device is the gradient from blue to violet on the back, which I think adds some pop and youth to the smartphone.

The body of the device is plastic while it comes at a weight of 170.7g.

On the body of the Camon 12, there’s nothing at the top while the bottom hosts the speaker, USB port and earphone jack. The power button and volume rocker are on the right while the memory card and SIM slot are on the other side.

The back which is beautiful, thanks to the colour, also houses the triple camera and a responsive fingerprint scanner.

The smartphone comes with a display size of 6.52-inches (with minimal bezels and a notch) and a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels which is bright and makes gaming and video playback sweet.

Speaking on the brightness of the device, the maximum brightness outdoors is quite bright while the minimum brightness in a dark environment is relatively okay.

Performance and Battery

The device is powered by 4GB of RAM which delivers smooth performance when it comes to gaming, internet surfing and multitasking. It comes with 64GB of internal storage, which can further be expanded using a microSD card. This is supported by a 4000mAh non-removable battery which lasts about 36 hours on moderate use.

Camera

Tecno equips you with a rear triple camera of 16 MP for AI scene detection, 8 MP for wide angle shots, and 2 MP for depth sensing. The16MP main lens with f2.0 aperture features AI scene detection and AI HDR, which offers AI optimization.

The camera features AI Cam which helps with object or person recognition, Beauty mode for enhancing facial features, Bokeh mode which highlights the main portrait and blurs the background, Panorama and AR Shot for making your pictures emojified!

The front-facing camera packs 16-megapixels, which is equipped with dual flashlights to enable you take good selfies in low-light conditions. There’s also the inclusion of a wide-selfie feature which is similar to the panorama effect of the rear camera.

Verdict

The camera really stands out for me on the Camon 12 as I got to take bright pictures with the device. Also for a price N47,000, Tecno really blends high-end features into this smartphone which proves that you can get it all at a good price!
