Top 5 Badass Game Characters of the Late 90’S – Early 2000’S

In the last few decade we have had lots of hot games, the likes of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Final Fantasy XV, Resident Evil 7 and so on. As we anticipate the yet to be released games, lets hold on and take a look back at those real bad ass game characters that used to freak us back in the late 90s and early 2000s.

5. TOMMY VERCETTI ( GTA SAN ANDRES, 2002)

TOMMY VERCETTI ( GTA SAN ANDRES, 2002)

At the beginning, Tommy is fresh out of prison and starts working again for the Forelli Family, he is immediately dispatched by Sonny Forelli to Vice City to participate in a drug deal, due to Sonny’s fear that Tommy’s presence in Liberty City will cause him problems in his business as he is still too widely known there. Sonny also tells him to expand business in the south and stay there for a while finding opportunities for a good business. Tommy is a criminal and drug dealer all through the game. I like it when he’s being chased by the police, you can feel the action.

In the end, Tommy earns the badass title where he is shown to have become an extremely powerful figure in Vice City’s criminal underworld. He has established the Vercetti Family, and he is shown to own a huge mansion, many businesses, and also has a dominating role in established drug trades in Vice City. He also leads the most powerful family in Vice City, and his defeat of the Forelli family leader begins the Forelli decline in Liberty City. He also becomes business partners with Big Mitch Baker’s Bikers and the Los Cabrones.

What could be more bad ass than an ex con who becomes a kingpin? I know, It’s a hot fighter who’s grandfather is a martial art master and convict.

4. CHRISTIE MONTERIO (TEKKEN, 2001)

CHRISTIE MONTERIO (TEKKEN, 2001)

Who remembers her fighting flexble dance moves? well, I do!

In the Tekken series, Christie is the granddaughter of a legendary capoeira master who is incarcerated in the same prison cell as Eddy Gordo. Eddy is taught the art of capoeira and after his release, his master requests that he seek and teach his granddaughter capoeira. Finding her soon after his return from The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, Eddy manages to teach Christie to become a capoeira prodigy in only two years. But soon thereafter, Eddy abruptly vanishes, leaving Christie only with the words, “Those responsible for my father’s death must pay.” Troubled by his sudden and mysterious disappearance, Christie goes looking for him, her only lead being The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. Shes also a character in Tekken 5 & 6.

What makes her a badass is that Christie became a capoeira prodigy in only two years… she’s real bad and yeah we love her fighting dance moves but whats more badass than hot capoeria fighter? I guess it’s a fighter that possesses superhuman abilities. That brings us to number 3.

3. DANTE (DEVIL MAY CRY, 2001)

DANTE (DEVIL MAY CRY, 2001)

Dante is the main protagonist of the Devil May Cry series created by CAPCOM. He is a mercenary dedicated to exterminating demons, a mission he follows in pursuit of those that killed his mother and corrupted his brother. He is the son of Sparda, a demon of great power that rebelled against the demon emperor and defeated his army. As a result of his demonic heritage he possesses numerous superhuman abilities which he uses in combination with a variety of weapons to accomplish his goals. In Devil May Cry, Trish (a demon who resembles Dante’s dead mother) hires Dante to help stop Mundus plan to conquer the human world by opening a gate to the demon world on Mallet Island.

What could be more bad ass than a half demon, half human? It’s a guy who stayed in the residence of the devil himself.

2. SCORPION (MORTAL KOMBAT, 1992)

This “GET OVER HERE” guy has always been a real badass, even from the start. When he was on earth, “Scorpion” (real name, Hanzo Hasashi) was one of the finest warriors of the Shirai Ryu, a Japanese ninja clan. It is known that his father, a former member of the Shirai Ryu, forbade him from joining the clan, as he did not wish for his son to live the life of an assassin. However, Hanzo joined in spite of his father’s wishes in order to provide his wife and son with a comfortable life. After he was killed by Sub-Zero, Scorpion started residing in hell. Later, he came to earth seeking vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his clan and the death of his family, including his wife and his son.

Scorpion is popularly known for his “GET OVER HERE” move (Sometimes he says “COME HERE”) , sending out a metal chain with a spear at the end which impales itself into the victim’s chest, allowing Scorpion to pull him or her towards him. He also has a Fire Breath move whereby he removes his mask to show his flaming skull then spews fire on his opponent.

What could be more badass then a guy who’s home was in hell? The answer is the “GOD OF WAR”

1. KRATOS (GOD OF WAR, 2005)

KRATOS (GOD OF WAR, 2005)

Kratos is the primary protagonist of the God of War series, first appearing in 2005. His primary weapon are his “chain blades”, a pair of swords attached by chains to Kratos’ arms. Kratos is the youngest and most promising captain in Sparta’s army, quickly gaining recognition due to his violent tactics. During an attack by a barbarian tribe, they are outnumbered. Before being killed by the barbarian king, Kratos summons Ares, the Greek god of war, and offers his soul in exchange for a victory.

He continues to serve Ares until the god tricks him into killing his own family, after which he serves several of the Greek gods for a decade. After becoming tired of serving the gods to erase the memories of his family’s murder, he contacts Athena, who offers him forgiveness if he is able to stop Ares’ destruction of Athens. After defeating several monsters attacking citizens, Kratos saves the city’s oracle who tells him to retrieve Pandora’s box in order to defeat Ares.

Kratos succeeds in this task, but is killed by Ares and sent to Hades. After escaping from the underworld, he returns to Athens and confronts Ares, regaining control of Pandora’s box and uses its power to kill the god. When he discovers that the gods’ forgiveness does not include allowing him to forget his mistakes, he attempts suicide, but is stopped by Athena who informs him that he has been granted Ares’ throne on Mount Olympus. He becomes the God of War after killing Ares

Kratos is tagged the number one bad ass because of his acts of extreme violence, he doesn’t really care about the consequences of his actions and of course he’s bloody. I mean how else will he want to avenge the death of his entire family?
