Threads has rolled out an edit button and Voice Threads

The edit button and voice Threads feature are some of the more dramatic changes that Threads has made in recent months in an effort to attract and retain users.

Threads, the X (Twitter) alternative created by Mark Zuckerberg, has rolled out an edit button to all users.

The feature is one of the suggestions touted by users of the Instagram extension days after its launch. Perhaps a sign that Threads is taking feedback from its community seriously.

How to use the edit button on Threads

To edit a post, users simply tap on the three-dot menu next to the post and select “Edit.” They can then make their changes and save the post.

The new edit button allows users to edit their posts after they have been published and indicates a post has been edited with an icon that looks both like a pen scribble and a threaded needle. Poetic.

How to use Voice Threads

Asides the edit button, Threads also now has an audio feature called Voice Threads. Voice Threads allows users post new Threads simply by speaking.

To post a voice Thread, tap the new Thread icon in the centre of the home screen. Then tap the microphone icon. A big red dot will appear. Once you tap that, it starts recording.

Users can post voice Threads of up to 30seconds and decide if the text transcription is accurate before they post, or if they’d rather record again.

Once satisfied with your recording, click “done.”

The post will then appear both as text and an audio file that can be played.

The edit button and voice Threads feature are some of the more dramatic changes that Threads has made in recent months in an effort to attract and retain users.

Other changes include a new “explore” tab, easier sharing options, and improved algorithm.

It remains to be seen whether these changes will be enough to turn things around for Threads which struggled to retain users after its first week.

These additions have the potential to positively impact user retention.

Users who are able to edit their posts are less likely to delete them, and people who are either not keen on typing their thoughts or unable to articulate them in written language can simply share their thoughts via audio leaving Threads to transcribe it for their followers.
