Microsoft and Asus are officially opening preorders for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. These handheld gaming devices bring Xbox to a portable form factor while running on a custom build of Windows.
In the United States, the ROG Xbox Ally is priced at $599, while the more advanced ROG Xbox Ally X comes in at $999. In Canada, they cost $799 CAD and $1,299 CAD, while European prices are set at €599 and €899. The UK will see them at £499 and £799, while Australian gamers can expect $799 AUD and $1,599 AUD. Both models will officially ship on October 16th, 2025.
Where to Buy the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X
The ROG Xbox Ally X will be available exclusively at Best Buy, the Asus Shop, and Microsoft’s store in the US. Meanwhile, the standard ROG Xbox Ally has wider availability at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Microsoft, the Asus Shop, and Ant Online.
Microsoft has also confirmed availability across multiple countries, including Australia, Canada, the UK, Europe, and parts of Asia, with future launches planned for Brazil, China, India, Malaysia, and more.
Specs and Performance Differences
The ROG Xbox Ally X is powered by the AMD Z2 Extreme chip with 8 Zen 5 CPU cores and 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, designed to run between 15 and 35 watts. It delivers stronger performance and is positioned against other high-end handhelds like the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus and Lenovo Legion Go 2.
On the other hand, the $599 ROG Xbox Ally uses a new Ryzen Z2 A processor. This chip has 4 Zen 2 CPU cores and 8 RDNA 2 GPU cores, running between 6 and 20 watts. While it offers lower performance, it’s positioned closer to the Steam Deck in capability.
A New Handheld Gaming Experience
What sets the new ROG Xbox Ally devices apart is Microsoft’s optimized Windows build. This version hides the desktop interface, frees up memory for games, and allows full navigation with a controller. Combined with Asus’ ergonomic design, the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X promise a more comfortable handheld gaming experience.
As handhelds continue to rise in price, Microsoft and Asus are betting that gamers will embrace these devices as powerful portable PCs — even at console-rivaling costs.
