Meta is expanding its wearables lineup with the announcement of its next-generation smart glasses, built in partnership with Oakley. The first model, the Oakley Meta HSTN (pronounced how-stuhn), is a limited-edition version priced at $499, with preorders starting July 11th. Additional models starting at $399 will launch later this summer.
These smart glasses mark Meta’s entry into the performance eyewear space, targeting athletes and active users. They combine Oakley’s sporty design with Meta’s AI-driven tech, packing features like:
- A front-facing 3K video camera (an upgrade from the 1080p Meta Ray-Bans)
- Open-ear speakers and microphones for audio and calls
- Full Meta AI integration, enabling real-time image analysis, language translation, and more
Once connected to a smartphone, users can stream music, take phone calls, or ask Meta AI contextual questions based on what the glasses see and hear.
Built for Performance
With an IPX4 water-resistance rating and 8-hour battery life, the Oakley Meta HSTN is designed for rugged, all-day use. The included charging case adds up to 48 hours of extended power, making it ideal for athletes or users on the move.
The glasses come in five frame and lens combinations, including prescription-ready options. Frame colors include warm grey, black, brown smoke, and clear, while lenses include options like Oakley’s signature PRIZM transitions. The $499 limited-edition model will feature gold detailing and gold PRIZM lenses.
Global Launch and Future Plans
The Oakley Meta smart glasses will be available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark.
This launch follows Meta’s multi-year partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company behind both Oakley and Ray-Ban. Over 2 million Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses have been sold to date, and the goal is to hit 10 million annual smart glasses sales by 2026.
“This is our first step into the performance category,” says Alex Himel, Meta’s head of wearables. “There’s more to come.”
As Meta leans deeper into AI-powered wearables, the Oakley collaboration signals a bold expansion where tech meets sport in a stylish, practical form.
