Apply for the Nigeria Ministry of Youth and Sports development & Bank of Industry (BOI) 60-Day app development challenge

The Nigeria Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in partnership with the Bank of Industry ( BOI) has concluded arrangements to launch the second edition of the 60-day app development challenge for young tech enthusiasts across the country.

According to the National Youth Policy, the challenge aims to improve innovation and creativity among the Nigerian Youth by encouraging them to develop their own app ideas and use them to solve problems in the Agric-tech, Edu-tech, Fintech, Health, Sports, or Telecommunications sectors.

Categories of App ideas

  1. AGRI-TECH: Developers who wish to create an Agric-tech solution should cover technologies related to precision farming, crop monitoring, and irrigation systems. An app idea that solves a problem in this sector could be one that helps farmers optimize their crop yields, identify pests and diseases early, or streamline their irrigation systems.
  2. ED-TECH: Ideas relating to the Edu-tech sector will cover technologies related to online learning platforms, virtual classrooms, and educational games. An app idea that solves a problem in this sector could be one that helps students learn more effectively, provides access to high-quality education for underserved communities, or gamifies the learning process.
  3. HEALTH-TECH: App ideas targeted at the Health sector are expected to address telemedicine, fitness tracking and disease management. It should also be one that helps people manage their health more effectively, provides access to healthcare for underserved communities, or tracks and motivates healthy behaviors.
  4. FINTECH: The ministry is looking for fintech app ideas that solves a problem in this sector could be one that helps people manage their finances more easily, provides access to financial services for underserved communities, or streamlines the payment process for businesses.
  5. The Sports sector: Technologies expected for this sector will relate to fitness tracking, performance analysis, and sports media. An app idea that solves a problem in this sector could be one that helps athletes optimize their performance, provides access to sports content for underserved communities, or streamlines the process of managing a sports team.
  6. Telecoms Sector: The Telecommunications sector expects entries relating to telecommunications, such as mobile networks, internet service providers, and communication tools. An app idea that solves a problem in this sector could be one that helps people stay connected more easily, provides access to communication tools for underserved communities, or streamlines the process of managing a telecom network.

Prizes and other incentives

The ministry has said there is a N1m grand prize (each) for 10 top apps; Business Development Training as well as 50 Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development participation certificates, amongst others.

Prospective applicants are expected to send in their entries through the portal, www.appchallenge.ng beginning from 9th January 2023. Entry submissions will close on the 10th of March 2023.
