What you need to know about MTN’s new 4G data plans

MTN

Nigeria’s largest telecoms operator MTN in fulfillment of its promise to make 4G services accessible to all Nigerians has unveiled its 4G packages to be rolled out on Visafone network.

Unlike other providers of 4G services – Smile and Spectranet, MTN’s 4G services are accessible nationwide although the higher prices when compared to the network’s current mobile data plans may make adoption to be slow.

TechCity gathered that the major requirement to access the service is the possession of a 4G-enabled device. When this is done, a user can then dial *444# to choose a preferred 4G plan.

There are 3 broad packages – Prepaid plans, Blackberry plans and data bundles

A cross section of Nigerians that are aware of the service offering said the packages are too expensive. Furthermore, they said it would be stressful to obtain 4G SIM cards and purchase 4G smartphones especially when the service is not comparatively cheaper to use. They also claim that NTel has cheaper plans for users of 4G devices.
