Shittu revealed that the DBI has enormous potentials and benefits to the country. He added that the institution has campuses in each of the country’s six geo-political zones.

Justifying the need for an ICT University, Shittu said the ICT sector is the fastest growing industry in Nigeria’s economy – growing at a rate of 24.42%. To sustain the growth, he said the country needs to put in place deliberate policy strategies within nationally and globally defined agenda for sustainable ICT development.  The establishment of an ICT university, he said, is one of the ways to move to the next phase of the nation’s ICT growth.

The inaugurated committee has till next month to submit its report while the university is expected to commence academic activities at the commencement of the next session.
