Microsoft yesterday announced the introduction of its first owned Laptop computer called the Surface Book. The new computer which is well crafted is powerful, responsive with pen and touch support. It is also important to know that it is a premium laptop as it sells for $1,499.

The Surface Book is powered by an impressive 6th generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors with 12 hours of battery life. Screen size is 13.5-inch with the PixelSense display which delivers high contrast at 267 ppi. The keyboard is backlit so you don’t have to worry about using the PC at night. The Pc is also enabled for full GPU rendering so heavy gaming, graphics and video editing jobs are sure to run fast and smooth.

The new Surface book is not just a laptop as it is also detachable so it can be used like a clipboard to sketch, take notes and also enjoy gaming.

As cool as this new Laptop looks, one would only ask why Microsoft decided to introduce a laptop into its product line considering the fact that it works with other OEMs like Lenovo, Dell, HP. Sounds like some kind of competition with its major partners and carriers of its software but I think that the $1,499 pricing will make the OEM partners heave a big sigh of relief. Not many OEMs have laptops within this range so it may not seem like much of a competition.

However subtle that may sound, we expect that the Surface Book will deliver on performance, and obviously better than Apple’s MacBook Pro just as Microsoft claims that its Book is 2 times more powerful than the MacBook Pro.
