MIA Group earlier this morning announced that it is launching 2 popular Xiaomi smartphones in Nigeria. The Redmi 2 and the Mi 4 will be launched through a dedicated shop on Jumia- the exclusive online partner for the launch.

In only 5 years, Xiaomi has emerged as the fifth largest phone makers in the world currently valued at $45billion. Considering these giant strides, MIA Group and Jumia intend to use this launch as a means to cash in on Nigeria’s growing smartphone market – where smartphone sales are expected to reach 12million in 2015.

The Redmi 2 has a fully laminated 4.7inch HD screen and 8 MP rear camera and would be sold at N29,000. The Mi 4 on the other hand has a well-engineered stainless steel frame with a 5inch full HD display, a 13MP rear camera and a 8MP front facing camera which would be sold at N56,000.

CEO of Jumia Africa, Jeremy Doutte speaking concerning its partnership with the MIA Group said, “We have seen such a strong appetite for quality smartphones in Nigeria that we look very much forward to providing consumers with more high-end smartphone options at incredible prices.”

Rj van Spandook, President of MIA Group, the only distribution group for Xiaomi in Africa, stated that the company was excited about its partnership with Jumia because of the great potentials it can see in Nigeria’s steadily growing smartphone market.
