Lenovo is back with another experimental laptop concept and this time, a device that can swivel its screen from horizontal to vertical. The new ThinkBook VertiFlex was unveiled at IFA 2025 in Berlin, alongside a lineup of futuristic concepts and fresh product updates.
A Laptop with a Vertical Twist
The Lenovo ThinkBook VertiFlex looks like a standard 14-inch laptop at first glance. But a closer look reveals its unique trick: the screen can be manually swiveled from a traditional landscape orientation to a vertical one.
This design could prove useful for tasks like editing documents, reading PDFs, or working in chat apps like Slack, where vertical space matters more than horizontal. Switching between orientations happens smoothly, without any lag. Unlike Lenovo’s rollable or foldable OLED concepts, the VertiFlex isn’t about expanding screen size — it’s about flexibility in how you use your laptop.
Could It Become a Real Product?
Lenovo has a history of turning some of its concepts into reality, such as the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, which sells for $3,500. The VertiFlex might follow the same path. Since it doesn’t rely on expensive folding or rolling OLED screens, the cost could be far more reasonable if it ever hits the market.
The laptop measures 17.9 mm thick and weighs around 3 pounds comparable to a MacBook Pro while maintaining portability despite its moving parts.
Lenovo Smart Motion Concept
Alongside the VertiFlex, Lenovo showcased the Smart Motion Concept, a motorized laptop stand that automatically swivels the laptop screen to face you. Using facial tracking or gesture controls via a wearable ring, the stand raises, lowers, and rotates the laptop while also serving as a docking station with multiple ports.
Though unlikely to become a household product, Lenovo suggests it could be useful in business environments where mobility and instant access are crucial.
Other IFA 2025 Announcements
Beyond concept devices, Lenovo also revealed several updates and new products:
- ThinkPad X9 Glacier White – a fresh color update for the premium laptop line.
- Yoga Tab ($550) and Idea Tab Plus ($270) – new midrange and budget-friendly Android tablets.
- LOQ Tower 26ADR10 ($1,000) – Lenovo’s first 26-liter gaming tower.
- Legion Pro 32UD-10 ($1,100) – a 31.5-inch 4K OLED monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate.

Why It Matters
Lenovo continues to push the boundaries of laptop design, experimenting with new ways to merge productivity and creativity. The ThinkBook VertiFlex concept in particular could appeal to professionals who value flexibility in their workflow, while the Smart Motion stand hints at futuristic workplaces where devices adapt to users, not the other way around.
With IFA 2025 as its stage, Lenovo shows once again that it isn’t afraid to experiment and some of these experiments may soon land in consumers’ hands.
