Huawei Plans to Join The Lead in Nigeria Smartphone Market

Huawei Technologies Co. announced plans to double its smartphone sales in Nigeria by the end of the year, the company reported earlier this week.

Nigeria has an approximate population of 160 million people, it has the largest mobile phone market in Africa and recorded about 117 million mobile subscribers in June.

Huawei began sales of the Ascend P6 smartphone in Nigeria in early September. The smartphone has been reviewed favorably and named one of world’s top mobile phones.

Huawei plans to sell 200,000 smartphones by January or double its sales for last year. Huawei, a Chinese Private Multinational company stepped into the African market in 1998 boasted a sale of over $2 billion by 2006 with presence in 40 countries across the continent. Huawei is popular in Nigeria as a service provider to mobile telephone operators. This has largely helped the Chinese firm to position itself on the market.
