Honor has officially launched its latest foldable phone, the Honor Magic V5, in China, claiming it to be the thinnest foldable phone in the world but with some fine print attached. While the device measures just 8.8mm when folded, this title only applies to the Ivory White version and excludes the raised camera bump.
Thin Design That Rivals Oppo and Samsung
With its sleek design, the Magic V5 edges out the Oppo Find N5, which is 8.9mm thick. However, that 0.1mm difference is mostly negligible. The V5’s slightly curved edges do make it feel thinner in hand, but only the white model achieves the ultra-slim 8.8mm profile. Other color variants with fiber and vegan leather finishes come in at a still-impressive 9mm.
When unfolded, the frame slims down to 4.1mm, just beating Oppo’s 4.2mm. But it’s worth noting that Huawei’s tri-fold Mate XT is even thinner at 3.6mm when open, though it lacks a USB-C port in its slimmest section.
Camera Bump Undermines “Thinnest” Claim
The triple rear camera setup on the Magic V5 is bulky, with a module that protrudes more than Oppo’s. Despite this, the enhanced camera specs—including higher resolution sensors and faster apertures may make the tradeoff worthwhile for photography enthusiasts.

Beyond the design debate, the Honor Magic V5 packs serious flagship power:

The phone is currently available in China, with a global release expected “soon,” according to Honor. With Samsung expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7 next week—also rumored to be thinner competition in the foldable space is heating up.
While the claim of being the world’s thinnest foldable may be debatable depending on how you measure it, the Honor Magic V5 certainly pushes boundaries. It’s a well-rounded device with standout specs, elegant engineering, and a promise of a refined foldable experience.
