Google’s Update To The Gmail App Now Supports Yahoo And Outlook Account

update to the Gmail app

Few days ago, Google rolled out Gmail 5.0 – which might just be the most significant update to the Gmail app. Gmail 5.0 was released to Google Play with new features and a contemporary design. The Gmail app now supports other types of non-Gmail email accounts. This is a very big change as in the past the app only supported Gmail or Google Apps accounts.

“We know some of you have email addresses that aren’t Gmail (it’s okay to admit it). The updated Gmail app now supports all email providers, which means you can now set up a separate inbox for, say, your Yahoo Mail or Outlook.com addresses using POP/IMAP.” Google wrote in an official Gmail blog post.

Gmail 5.0 for Android sports a new look with a redesigned user interface that has a very modern look. It was made with Google’s new Material Design language which was also used for the next Android update – Lollipop.

Some of the additional features in this update are the improved navigational controls which makes the interface easier to understand and use. Google also added a design which allows you switch between different email folders or accounts (available on the tablet version), a reply button just below messages.

This update of the Gmail app is available for all devices running Android 4.0 and higher. It would be available for download within the next few days. It is not certain when the Gmail app update will be available on iOS.
