Gokada is pivoting to delivery logistics

Rumor-turned-truth is the way to describe the news of the sack of about 80% of workers at bike hailing service Gokada. There are indications that Ayodeji Adewunmi might have left the company as co-founder.

According to media reports, Gokada has sacked most of its workforce due to the decision of the Lagos state government to ban Okada and tricycles in major parts of the state. The decision was reportedly taken two days after the announcement was made.

Confirming the development, Gokada’s founder Fahim Saleh said the startup will “need to transition to being the best logistics provider.

While TechCity earlier predicted that bike hailing services in Lagos may consider expanding to other locations, Saleh suggested this may not be happening at Gokada as the startup is considering pivoting to providing delivery logistics services in Lagos.

“We still have money in the bank and are pivoting towards deliveries while this transport ban gets sorted. We were due to make a profit in January before the ban was announced,” Saleh said.
