FG encourages local data centres to increase capacity

Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu has said that the Federal Government would begin hosting its data in the country once Nigerian data centres prove that they’ve got enough capacity to do so. The minister made this statement while visiting Rack Centre, Nigeria’s premium Tier III Data Centre recently.

During the visit, Mr Ayotunde Coker, Managing Director Rack Centre reiterated his company’s commitment to increasing its capacity as he stated that his company had recently doubled its capacity from 119 racks to 255 racks within the last seven month. He also added that “the capacity can be increased again to 600 racks within another seven months once it is identified that the market exists for the expansion.”

In response to this Barrister Adebayo Shittu went ahead to say that the Federal Government would compel Ministries, Departments and Agencies to host locally.
