Ecobank Launches a Pan-African Banking Sandbox for African Fintechs

The African tech space has evolved to reshape how business is done, especially in the area of payments, investments, insurance, asset management, clearance and securities settlements.

With all the possibilities and development in this field, Ecobank Group, on January 27, 2020, launched a Pan-African Banking Sandbox, an IT security system that will provide support for its partners and fintechs across all 33 African countries where the bank operates.

The Banking Sandbox will allow users develop innovative solutions through access to its App Programming Interface (API).

According to the bank, the move will promote its e-banking segment. Following the announcement of the sandbox launch, the Bank’s new Group Senior Fintech Advisor, Djiba Diallo stated that “It will create a great avenue for collaboration between Ecobank and fintechs, give fintechs the chance to further innovate while developing the capacity of the wider fintech ecosystem on the continent.”

African fintechs such as Flutterwave (Nigeria), Africa’s Talking (Kenya), Callme2Work (Kenya), and Esicia ltd (Rwanda) have reportedly been pre-selected for the pilot launch.
