AWIT Hosts ‘Give to Gain: Balancing the Scale’ IWD 2026 Convening in Lagos

Lagos, Nigeria – March 25, 2026 – African Women in Technology (AWIT) hosted the
Nigeria edition of its International Women’s Day 2026 Global Series on March 12, 2026 at
the Nexford University Community Space, Lagos.

The convening, themed “Give to Gain: Balancing the Scale,” brought together leaders
across technology, fintech, venture capital, media, and policy to address a central question:
how can women move from participation to ownership and decision-making power in Africa’s digital economy?

In her opening remarks, Anie Akpe, Founder of AWIT, emphasised the need to shift from
recognising women’s contributions to enabling their influence across systems, capital, and
leadership structures.

The programme featured cross-sector conversations spanning artificial intelligence, fintech,
entrepreneurship, and ecosystem development.

The opening panel, “The Future Is Female – AI, Data & Digital Power,” with Dr Taiwo
Anjorin
, Olufunmi Olaosun, and Zusi Inegbeniki, examined women’s participation in deep
tech, data governance, and leadership within emerging technologies.

Oluwatosin Olaseinde led a session on financial literacy and fintech, highlighting the role of
digital financial systems in expanding economic access for women, while Florence Chikezie
shared insights on building scalable, purpose-driven businesses.

A key discussion on media and ecosystem visibility featured Ayeni Oluwatobi Dorcas
(MissTechy)
, Adaudo Anyiam-Osigwe, and Patricia Uyeh, focusing on how storytelling
shapes perception, funding opportunities, and global positioning for African innovation.

Further insights from Toluwanimi Onakoya reinforced the role of strategic communication in strengthening Africa’s innovation narrative.

The event closed with a systems-level conversation featuring Juliet Eze, Tinuade
Oguntuyi
, and Sara Pinheiro, exploring pathways for women to access leadership, capital,
and institutional influence.

The Lagos convening attracted founders, investors, ecosystem builders, and young
professionals, strengthening connections and advancing conversations on inclusive
innovation across Africa’s tech landscape.
