Application for Facebook backed Imisi 3D VR Hacktahon closes tomorrow!

Leading Extended Reality Creation Lab in Nigeria, Imisi 3D is collaborating with partners to hold a 3-day Augmented/Virtual Reality Hackathon across the continent this April. The Hackathon will happen in 7 countries,  over 48 Hours, with 35+ teams taking part. The AR/VR Africa Hackathon is supported by Facebook, GitHub and Unity amongst others.

Imisi 3D has announced that the Hackathon will hold from 20th – 22nd April, 2018; it will take place in Egypt, Tunisia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa. Applications to participate are open and will close at 11:59pm on Friday, March 30th. The theme for the AR/VR Africa Hackathon is ‘Creating Our Future’ with teams tasked with building solutions for Education, HealthCare, Tourism, the Environment and Social Justice. Applications will be reviewed and participation confirmation sent out on April 2nd.  Participants will benefit from a series of learning opportunities and access to mentors in the run up to the hackathon.

We know the journey is just beginning and we are thrilled to provide more opportunities for our communities to explore becoming creators and not just consumers of technology; and the extended reality technologies are a great place to start” said Imisi 3D founder and AR/VR Africa convener, Judith Okonkwo.

The hackathon will take place in 7 African cities. Interested applicants are invited to join the AR/VR Facebook networking group to find potential team members and then apply on the event website, participant confirmation will be sent out on April 2nd.

Over $15,000 (fifteen thousand dollars) worth of prizes will be awarded at the hackathons.

 

Imisi 3D is an Extended Reality (XR) creation lab dedicated to growing a community of AR and VR developers in Nigeria, creating solutions using VR, and providing educational and engagement experiences with AR/VR. They see huge potential for AR and VR as tools for creating everyday solutions and intend to change the technology narrative so that they transcend being consumers but then become creators of technology.
