Apple’s marvelous M3 chip series, refreshed iMac, Macbook Pro 14 & 16 continue to impress

The Apple “Scary Fast” closed out October on a festive note and they are still the rave days after the big announcements.

In a virtual gathering, the company unveiled its latest and greatest M3 chips: the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max.

Additionally, Apple announced some new devices powered by these upgraded chips: a new MacBook Pro, now available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, and a revamped 24-inch iMac.

At the “Scary Fast” event, Apple introduced its latest M3 chip family. The M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips mark a significant advancement in Apple’s in-house chip technology.

Built on a more efficient 3-nanometer process, these chips offer notable improvements in both speed and power efficiency.

Notably, this is the first time Apple has simultaneously announced three tiers of its new chips. These new chips come with some exciting features, including dynamic caching, ray tracing, and mesh shading for improved graphics rendering in games and applications.

One standout feature is the simultaneous announcement of three tiers of the new chip: the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. These chips offer varying levels of performance, with the M3 Max being the most powerful, supporting up to 128 gigabytes of unified memory.

In total, three chips were announced: M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. Additionally, Apple introduced new devices powered by these chips, including the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros and a refreshed 24-inch iMac.

These new Mac products come with significant improvements in graphics rendering, CPU functions, and machine intelligence tasks, promising a substantial boost in performance.

The M3 chip lineup introduces features like dynamic caching for memory allocation and enhanced graphics capabilities for gaming and graphics-intensive applications.

The MacBook Pro lineup received a significant boost with M3-powered models. Both sizes come with Mini LED displays, improved battery life, and advanced features.

The addition of a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 chip offers users an exciting, more affordable option.

The 24-inch iMac retains its vibrant design and color options but gets an M3 processor upgrade, promising twice the performance of the previous Apple silicon-powered iMac sports a 4.5K Retina display, Wi-Fi 6E support, and a 1080p webcam. It’s available in a range of vibrant colors and comes with color-matched peripherals, letting you choose your preferred accessories.

Fun fact

The entire event was live streamed using an iPhone 15 Pro max with filmmakers and producers working behind the scenes to make Apple’s event tasteful.

According to Apple, the event stream was led by documentary film director Brian Oakes known for the award-winning Jim: The James Foley Story and Living with Lincoln. The event was advised by Jon Carr, a Pro Workflow video specialist whose credits include Top Gun: MaverickTerminator: Dark Fate, and Jeff Wozniak who has credits on Transformers: Dark of the MoonAvatar, and Iron Man 2.

“We were able to get the same complex shots with iPhone 15 Pro Max,” Oakes said. “It’s amazing to see that the quality from a device that is so small and so portable can rival a large $20,000 camera.”

Pricing

The pricing for these new devices starts at $1,299 for the 24-inch iMac, $1,599 for the 14-inch MacBook Pro, and $1,999 for the M3 Pro-equipped models. The 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,499.

If you’re eager to experience the power and innovation of these new Macs, preorders are available now, and the devices will start arriving on doorsteps and stores on November 7th 2023.
