Apple introduces iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Finally Apple has responded to the yelling of many fans out there by unveiling a larger than the 4 inch screen iPhone, the iPhone 6 which clocks at 4.7 inches. Apple also provided customers with larger screen options by unveiling another larger sized iPhone 6 Plus with 5.5 inch screen.

Just as we were expecting and how the leaks suggested, its curvy, slimmer and larger than the previous versions. The iPhone 6 comes in three colors: gold, silver, and space grey with thinness reduced to 6.9mm, while the iPhone 6 Plus drops to 7.1mm, when compared to the 7.6mm for the iPhone 5s.

The two devices still maintain the Retina display with pixel resolution of 1334×750 at 326ppi for the 4.7-inch and 1920×1080 pixels at 401ppi for the 5.5-inch version. Apple now calls the display a Retina HD and thus the resolution translates to over one million and two million pixels for the two new versions, respectively.

Apple’s increased real estate isnt just coming for the fun of it, the company created new landscape modes for better viewing experience and also some extra dedicated keys on the keyboard. Touch ID fingerprint security is also available as in the 5S, so does the same physical volume controls and mute button. This time around Apple relocated the sleep/wake button to the right side of the handset and app drop-drowns for easier one-handed operation.

Both have an 8-megapixel iSight camera with features like faster autofocus and slow-motion video up to 240 frames per second. The difference in the camera is that the iPhone 6 Plus has optical image stabilization while the iPhone 6 does not.

Apple also announced that iOS 8 will be available for download on existing iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch models starting on September 17. Both devices are powered by the new 64-bit A8 processors which contains two billion transistors which boasts a 50 percent faster graphics and 25 percent faster CPU which will make the phone more power efficient than the last-generation A7.

Both new iPhones incorporate built-in Near-Field Communication (NFC) chips, a feature we have long waited for. It will will allow easier way to pay for purchases.

The iPhone 6 will come in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models for $199, $299 and $399 respectively, while the iPhone 6 Plus will come in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models for $299, $399 and $499 all on two-year contract. We can’t confirm the official price in Nigeria now.

The release of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus has dropped the price of the iPhone 5s to $99, while the iPhone 5c goes to free-on-contract.  Apple says the new iPhones will start shipping on Sept. 19 but we are not sure of how soon it’s going to be available in Nigeria.
