Google is making its Gemini AI assistant more proactive with the rollout of “scheduled actions,” a feature that allows Gemini Advanced (AI Pro and Ultra) subscribers to schedule tasks ahead of time and have the assistant carry them out automatically.
With this update, users can instruct Gemini to perform tasks at specific times. For example, you can ask Gemini to:
- Summarize your calendar at the end of each workday
- Generate blog post ideas every Monday morning
- Send a recap of an event the day after it occurs
According to Google, all you need to do is tell Gemini what you want done and when, and the assistant will take care of the rest. This bridges the gap between simple AI prompts and truly useful agent-like automation.
How to Manage Gemini’s Scheduled Actions
To view or edit your planned tasks, just head to the “scheduled actions” section in your Gemini app settings. The feature gives users more control over how and when AI assistance kicks in, making Gemini more comparable to a virtual productivity coach than just a chatbot.
The new capability was first noticed in testing by Android Authority back in April. It officially rolls out as Google pushes to make Gemini an intelligent task manager, not just a conversational tool.
Competition in the AI Assistant Space
This move mirrors OpenAI’s similar features in ChatGPT, where Pro users can schedule reminders and recurring tasks. Both companies are racing to build smarter, more autonomous AI agents that not only respond to queries, but anticipate and organize daily needs.
As generative AI tools evolve, scheduled actions could be the next big step in turning chatbots into full-fledged digital assistants.
