Uber partners Mi-Fone to give Africans a jolly good ride

Thanks to new deal with Uber, mi-Fone customers in Africa will soon have easier access to the e-hailing company’s taxi service. Starting this March, all new mi-Fone will have the Uber app pre-installed on them as both companies look to forge a stronger business relationship in Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya.

Speaking about the new partnership, Founder and CEO of mi-Fone, Alpesh patel said “…the Uber platform is available in over 10 African cities with three of the key markets being Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. mi-Fone is a local African device, catering to those key markets and through our partnership with Uber we will help connect more people with reliable and affordable ways to move around their cities.”

As part of this partnership, mi-Fone and Konga.com have launched a co-branded initiative called ‘mi-Tribe’. Customers who purchase any mi-Tribe device will not only have the Uber app pre-installed into their phone but also stand the chance to win discounted rides if they are first time users on Uber users who sign up with the codeMIAFRICA.

Uber drivers in kenya can now purchase a specially priced 5 inch smartphone.

Alon Lits, Uber’s General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa added that his company’s goal for entering into the partnership was to allow them provide ‘more people with safe, reliable and affordable rides at the touch of a button..” he said.
