Exxon Mobil in partnership with Aker Solutions has launched 3 e-learning centers and e-library management systems in 3 public primary schools in Lagos state. These e-learning centers which were provided in three separate Local Government Areas of the state; were donated as part of Exxon Mobile’s community assistance program, for its Erha North Phase 2 umbilical project.
The project was deployed by Crestsage Ltd, it included the provision of 63 computer units in newly renovated and air conditioned computer rooms in the 3 schools namely:
Ansar-Ud-Deen Nursery and Primary school, Ebute Meta,
Awoyaya Nursery and Primary school, VI and
Obalende Nursery and Primary School, Ikoyi.
Installed in all the computers were 30 educational softwares, an e-library management system and some notable programs like Scratch, HTML BrainFriend amongst other educational bundles. The computer rooms were also provided with internet connection for an initial period of 3 years.
Speaking about the unique features of the e-learning centres, the MD of Crestage Ltd, Charles Emembolu said that the project design also factored in sustainability by providing an alternative source of clean power (inverter) which can run the e-center during power outages for 24 hours. He also added that his company had already trained 18 teachers and 60 pupils across the 3 schools on how to use the computers and the programs installed in them.
In attendance at the launch were all of the project stakeholders which included, representatives from Exxon Mobil, the project manager/client rep of Aker solutions, the three executive secretaries of the three benefiting Local Government Authorities, teachers and students from the benefiting schools as well as members of the press.
The Project manager Aker Solutions, Mr Utomi Egbodaghe and the representative for Exxon Mobil, Mr Chukwudi Egbuta, both stressed the need for the head teachers and teachers in the schools to allow the pupils fully utilize the e-learning centers. This they said was vital because as students in public schools, the e-learning centers had been provided for them in order to give them a fair chance to compete with their peers in private schools or even anywhere in the world, hence the students must be encouraged to make the most of all that has been provided.
The event ended with a short tour of the Obalende Nursery and Primary school, e-learning centre with so much appreciation from the students and head teachers of the benefiting schools.
