Uber the international transport network company is set to launch a cash payment experiment in Lagos on Monday 18 January 2016.

According to the company which seamlessly connects riders to drivers through its mobile app, riders will still have access to all of the apps’ current features including the new option to pay their driver directly in cash at the end of their trip.

Riders would now only need to choose the CASH payment option, take a ride and pay their driver directly in cash when they arrive their destination.

Ebi Atawodi, General Manager for Uber Lagos, while speaking about the cash payment experiment which begins next week said “The interest in Uber in Lagos has been amazing, and we are excited to experiment with cash payments on the Uber platform. Uber riders in Lagos already have access to safe, reliable and affordable transportation and this cash test opens up the Uber platform to even more people.”

He also mentioned that the company would be looking to get useful insights from the experiment which would help the company better serve its customers.

Lagos is the third city in Africa, after Nairobi and Cairo, where this experiment would be held – following the beginning of a global test in Hyderabad, India on the 12th of May 2015.

It is however important to note that the cash option would be rolled out gradually. Hence, not all riders in Lagos would see the cash payment option right away, as the company would start by testing different groups and user preferences.

The e-hailing company is hereby encouraging all riders to look out for the service starting on the 18th January, make use of it if it’s available and share their feedback with them at support.lagos@uber.com or Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #UberCashLagos

Please don’t forget to share your feedback after using the service as it’s the feedback from customers (who use the service) that would indeed make the experiment successful.

To request a ride, users must download the free Uber app for Android, iPhone, Blackberry 7, Windows Phone or register at Uber.
