Top 5 Free Apps on Google Play Store For Real? I don’t Even Have Number 2!

According to Google play store which is the Android OS store for apps, games, etc, these 5 apps should definitely be on your device!

5: Opera mini browser

Saving people’s data since 1900, this is the number 5 top free app on Google play store right now! With 100million plus downloads, 4,675 reviews and an update (Version 18.0) as recent as July 2016, Opera mini is 3.62MB in size, has an inbuilt ad blocker, downloads video from sites except Youtube and serves as a news app by presenting you information on the homepage before you make your search.

4: Instagram

Yessss. L4L. F4F. Repost, tag, like, comment, etc. I am surprised IG as it is fondly called is not at number 2. According to Google play store, the app which is 12MB large has over 500million plus downloads has a new update (Version 9.0) rolled out August 1 2016 which is called Instagram stories. This feature allows you share photos and videos with drawing and editing tools but they exist for only 24hours just like Snapchat. side eye

3: Facebook

Ha! Facebook, number 3! This competition is more nerve racking than #TheVoiceNigeria! Facebook has over 1billion users on the social network. Heck, Facebook is the only app called a social network! Download size is 45.8MB and just like IG, a new update (Version 88.0) was released August 1, 2016. The new version on Google playstore simply states “improvements for reliability and speed”. OK!

2: Facebook Messenger

This Mark Zuckerberg has taken over my list. Uncle is the owner of Instagram and Facebook and after brilliantly making Facebook Messenger a stand-alone app, has been able to gather 1Billion plus users on the chat app thereby making more revenue and proving to us that anything he touches becomes dynamite. The most recent version of Facebook Messenger is Version 81.0 rolled out on July 25 2016. It is 37.29MB in size and syncs numbers of your friends on Facebook to Messenger so you can call within the app, view call history, etc in one place.

NUMBER ONE… DRUM ROLL!!!

1: WhatsApp

Lol. I know! We have all become so used to Whatsapp that we do not necessarily consider it an actual application. That’s how Facebook used to be once upon a time. Whatsapp is also owned by Uncle Mark Zuckerberg and yes, there are over 1billion active users on Whatsapp like his other 2 investments. I love WhatsApp but how I still cannot retract and actually delete a message so the receiver does not get it is disappointing. How anyone who has my number can just message me without my permission is frustrating. Still, we all love WhatsApp. My mum uses it.My dad, not so much but if he weren’t such a ‘caller’, I bet he would. The app is just 7.7MB and got a recent update (Version 2.16) on July 27, 2016 which made it possible to reply to specific messages in a chat or person’s message in a group. There you have it, WhatsApp is the number 1 free app on Google play store… for now.

I don’t even have or use Facebook Messenger (Number 2). Do you have all 5? What app did you think would make it to the Top 5 that’s not here?
