Former Facebook exec embezzles $4m from company

A former Facebook employee, Barbara Furlow-Smiles has pleaded guilty to embezzling over $4 million from the company now known as Meta.

Barbara served as a lead strategist and global head of employee resource groups and diversity engagement at Facebook.

According to the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, Ryan K. Buchanan, Barbara exploited her position to defraud the company, diverting funds meant for business purposes to finance a lavish lifestyle in California and Georgia.

She did this by linking her company credit cards to popular platforms like PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App which she then used to pay for services that were never rendered.
