Facebook joins Whatsapp in ending support for Blackberry OS.

Facebook has announced that it would be ending support for its social media apps on Blackberry’s Operating System by the end of the year. This news comes only weeks after Whatsapp, another very popular messaging app (owned by Facebook) announced that it would be ending support for its Blackberry app also by the end of this year.

You got that right, Blackberry is in serious trouble.

Every news I hear about how badly this phone manufacturer is doing serves as a reminder of how important it is for companies to keep innovating and improving in order to remain relevant over time. With the digital revolution speeding up in every respect, the rate at which once leading companies can fall behind the competition is faster than at any other time in history.

After Facebook’s announcement, Blackberry Senior Marketing Manager Lou Gazzola in a blog post  said “The app landscape continues to evolve, and in ways that are not always within our control.”

Faithful Blackberry users have also voiced their dismay at Facebook’s decision, with many bemoaning the fact that they’d have to end up abandoning their beloved BB10s so they can conveniently access their Facebook on alternative devices.

However, if you’re a Blackberry user you may not have to ditch your Blackberry just so you can use Facebook’s apps on other devices. All you’ll need to do now is access it via your web browser. More cumbersome yeah, but less expensive than buying another device (when you’re on a strict budget).
