YouTube Might Allow You Pay To Avoid Ads

Every content creator now knows that video is the next big thing…. this is so evident considering the volume of contents being churned out on a daily basis on the various platforms and the amount of time people spend online watching these contents. Among several video platforms available, YouTube is the biggest and the most popular.

As cool as enjoying your music vid or watching your favorite make up video gets, it can really get annoying with the tons of ads that pops up before your contents begin to play and you are just waiting to hit that skip button…. No thanks to the free ad-supported model the company employed for years which has paid off over time making it the number one stop platform to consume video contents.

Maybe there will be a way out soon, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki while speaking during the Re/code’s Code/Mobile conference said the video giant is considering selling ad-free video subscriptions. Susan was quoted saying:

“YouTube right now is ad-supported, which is great because it has enabled us to scale to a billion users; but there are going to be cases where people are going to say, `I don’t want to see the ads, or I want to have a different experience’,” Wojcicki said in an onstage interview. She compared the idea to apps where users can “either choose ads, or pay a fee, which is an interesting model. … We’re thinking about how to give users options.”

This subscription model would actually reduce or totally take off the ads but the big challenge is whether people will choose to pay for this option considering how annoying those ads can sometimes be.

“We’ve been thinking about other ways it might make sense for us [at YouTube]. We’re early in that process, but if you look at media over time, most of them have both ads and subscription services,” Susan added.

Well, the subscription model is not here yet but we should be expecting it to come soon enough. Asked if i would embrace the model, i am not certain i would pay anyway….. that is if it doesn’t get more annoying as it is now but if it ever gets… then i would definitely do away with the bucks so as not to see those ads no more.
