Xiaomi set to sell its Smartphones in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa

Smartphone competition continue to stiffen as Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, Xiaomi has finally decided to start selling its smartphones in the Nigerian market.

Xiaomi, the top selling smartphone in China offers high end specifications at very affordable prices, however competition from Apple and Huawei has continued to reduce the company’s market share and now decided to expand to Nigeria and Africa as a whole with the introduction of the Redmi 2 and Mi 4 smartphones starting with South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.

This was made known today after the company announced it has entered a distribution partnership with Mobile in Africa Group to sell the two smartphone variants beginning at the end of this month.

Xiaomi’s entrant into Nigeria signals strong competition for Infinix, Tecno, InnJoo alongside the big players like Samsung.

Xiaomi’s success has been attributed to its online-based direct-to-consumer model, this ensure devices are available at the lowest price possible. Infinix mobility currently makes use of this model and Xiaomi aims to replicate same in Nigeria.

Xiaomi has handed over a range of functions such as importation, logistics, and marketing to MIA Group, its Redmi 2 and Mi 4 smartphones will be sold through operator partners and website retailers in the three countries.

I will be here waiting to get my hands on the device, review and let you know if it’s worth spending your money on.
