Terragon Group announces Augmented Reality (AR) Solution in Africa

Terragon Group- Africa’s largest digital media company says it can now create Augmented Reality (AR) Solutions in Africa. The company partnered with Blippar.Inc – a global leader in AR and maker of the blippar app, to bring this service to the African market.

As part of publicity for the arrival of its AR solution, Terragon launched a social media campaign on May 1st with the hashtag #BlippNaija.  As part of the campaign, Android and iOS users are to download the blippar app (a visual discovery app that uses augmented reality and machine learning to give users more information about the physical world via smartphones and wearables) from the Playstore or apple’s app store, Blipp the N1,000 note and share their experiences using the #BlippNaija hashtag.

Blippar-930x559Wikipedia’s definition of Augmented Reality is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. Considering this, Terragon believes that its new offering would make mobile devices the preferred channel for organizations to advertise their goods and services.

Temitope Esan, Product manager, AR, Terragon Group, also added that “The opportunities for AR are endless to any organization as it seeks to enhance our real world experience. By superimposing digital information on real life objects, individual customers are given a personalised and rich user experience that enables them to easily connect to a brand’s offerings. With the use of AR, Brands have an in-depth understanding of their customer behaviour that will increase affinity, user engagement and interaction with their various product/service offering,” Esan said.

Regardless of what business executives think about how cool or useful this app or Solution is, it still boils down to whether or not Nigerians will use it. I’ve tried out the app and so far it seems like the sort of thing that only inquisitive people or people who enjoy learning new things would find enjoyable.
