TechPlus 2016 kicks off today in Lagos

Described as Nigeria’s biggest tech event, TechPlus returns to Lagos today with a plethora of speeches, events, games and side attractions. The event which is themed ‘A connected World” spans from 21st to 23rd of July, 2016.

TechPlus is a convergence of everything technology which provides a unique multilateral experience for tech enthusiasts and serves as a market place for the consumers as well as businesses. One of the speakers is Managing Director of Jumia Classifieds in Nigeria and Ghana, Akua Mensah.

Akua Mensah, who heads Jumia Classifieds which comprises Jumia Jobs, Jumia Cars, Jumia Deals and Jumia Houses ( formerly known as Everjobs, Carmudi, Vendito and Lamudi), will bring to fore one key aspect in the digitization of the Nigerian economy which is ‘Nigeria as a first mobile country’ and its implication for the ecommerce sector. The mobile-generated revenues in Africa accounted for 5.7% of Africa’s total GDP (102 billion) in 2015 and are presumed to reach 8% of GDP by 2020.

With 80% of the Nigerians making up for Africa’s mobile subscription and 46% of its population connected in the first months of 2016, internet access through mobile is a confirmed trend. 70% of Nigerian customers access Jumia via their mobile phones and this has led to the increasing popularity of apps.

In redefining the way the African consumers shop, Jumia has consolidated its efforts with integration of all ventures of the Africa Internet Group under Jumia. Customers can now order foods, book a hotel, buy a new phone and do more under a single platform.

Meet us at the 2016 Tech Plus Conference where Technology comes to life and innovations are the order of the day.
