Team Humane emerges winner of Microsoft ImagineCup 2016 national finals

Team Humane has emerged winner of the National finals of the Microsoft ImagineCup 2016 competition in Nigeria. 11 teams classified into three categories namely Innovation, World Citizenship and Games qualified from the regional semi-finals held in Ibadan, Abuja and Porthacourt.

The various teams pitched their products and solutions to the judges comprising Opeyemi Olaniran: Premier Field Engineer manager, Microsoft Nigeria, Olayinka Oni: Chief Information Officer, Sterling Bank, Blessing Nnachi: Sales solution specialist,Microsoft Nigeria and Abiola Olaniran: CEO Gamsole.

Team Humane, made up of students from Obafemi Awolowo Univeristy has a solution for the visually impaired to enable them interact with apps on their mobile phone. The device called Humane Handle has three buttons and interacts with apps installed on a device using Bluetooth. A visually impaired person can navigate through various apps installed on a phone using the handle and an integrated voice navigation system.

Team Humane will now compete with other winners at the Middle East and Africa finals. Winner at the MEA will pitch their product at the World Finals in Seattle.

Team IDP finders emerged third place position while Team Ulcerex emerged second place.

Wi-Fi hub

Student targeted solution designed to enable users have access to educational materials. The app provides these resources via local web hosting platform where resources and materials are locally hosted and easily accessed offline by students who make up the primary audience.

My Supervisor and I

Web based solution designed to automate project management process. Bridge gap between student and project supervisor by automatically managing the process of assigning and collaboration. Student project work can be remotely managed by supervisors on the platform via a project work dashboard which has various collaborative modules such as chat, mentorship. Project work can uploaded by students and at the same time reviewed and approved by supervisors.

Efficiency

Inventory management system that enables efficiency in managing lecture theatre, hostel allocations to students in tertiary institution.

EiVEE

An event management app that enables individuals plan ahead for upcoming events. The app sets a reminder for events, enabled with an in-built map to direct users to the venue of the event and a gift shop.

AppGrade

An academic platform hat allows student plan and manage detailed academic course work, create target work plan at the beginning of the academic year. The platform enables students calculate anticipated achievable grade point for the semester, session and proposes ways and how the set grades can be achieved.

UlcereX

A deterministic approach to diagnosing ulcer by following three simple steps: Swallow, Click and Breath

A capsule is swallowed orally and few minutes later the patient breathes into the device which detects audiofrequency signals. This device is connected to mobile phone via a headphone jack where the results are displayed. This team aims to provide cheaper and affordable ways of carrying out diagnostic test on Ulcer patients.

IDP Finder

Provide meaningful statistics about Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). IDP Finder offers a detailed and adequate Management Information System that captures elements such as name educational status, age, location, occupation etc. It aims to reconnect IDPs back into the society, provide employment opportunities, connects IDPs with volunteering humanitarian services and donor agencies.

Aegle

A health management solution to the problem of inadequate post-treatment communication experienced in the hospitals and health centres. Aegle app provides users with information about their ailment based on certain feedback in the form of questions and answers. It also allows users schedule medication times therby notifying them on when to take drugs, provides instant health feedback to doctors and is integrated with an emergency alert system.

Crimson

An app that diagnose malaria using mobile phones. Conduct a simple malaria test with a simple kit (Crimson kit + Hardware). The app is also enabled with travel feature which informs users of the level of malaria threat in various zones they try to visit.

HOVA

RPG mobile game with series of task to accomplish. It represents a truly African gaming environment with a black character and a holistic localized African gaming experience.
