Sony’s Playstation VR is coming this October and it’s kinda cheap

Yes ‘Kinda’ –  when compared to its VR competitors.

So Sony recently announced that its VR headset (PSVR) will be launched this October and would be sold for $399. The company shared the news during a keynote at the 2016 Game developer Conference in San Francisco, CA.

There are two reasons why the PSVR is cheaper than its competitors. First PSVR headset alone costs only $399while the Oculus Rift starts at $599 and HTC’s Vive will sell for $799 and secondly, the necessary hardware with which to use the PSVR (which of course is the PS4) costs about $299, an amount that’s definately less than the cost of the powerful laptops required to enjoy the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

However, there are a few things Sony left off their headset. The PSVR comes without both the PlayStation camera and the company’s Move Controllers, both of which are required to use the headset. According to the Verge, a company rep mentioned that the reason for not including both features was because many PS4 owners have already bought the camera. PlayStation VR bundles will be sold, and those would likely include things like the camera and the Move controllers”.

PSVR

The PSVR has a 5.7-inch OLED screen that will display games at up to 120 frames per second. It also comes with a “1920 x RGB x 1080, meaning that each pixel comes in RDB colour. The most interesting feature though is that it will fit in easily into an already existing hardware that a lot of people already own, unlike the Oculus Rift and Vive which both an untrained person can’t easily set up.

Any ways, I’ve got no idea when the PSVR will be available in Nigeria or if it’ll do well here in terms of sales. Either way it’s only after the headset has been launched that we’ll be able to find out if this will do much in improving the PS4 gamer’s experience, after all that’s the main reason why Sony made it.
