Samsung’s IMEI tool helps Note 7 users check if phone may explode

Samsung has released a special Galaxy Note 7 IMEI tool which allows device owners to check if their Galaxy Note 7 could explode in the future.

Even though the news that Galaxy Note 7 phones exploded made worldwide headlines, a good number of people have refused to exchange their devices. As a matter of fact usage rate of the phone remained stable despite the recall and in the USA, Samsung received only 130,000 Galaxy Note 7 units for replacement, despite the recall.

Samsung has however come up with a solution for those who do not want to return their devices by making their IMEI tool which could help detect if a user’s phone has a chance of exploding, go live.

To detect if a device is part of those to be recalled, users have to visit the Samsung recall page, and enter their Galaxy Note 7’s IMEI number.  This could be found  on the retail box or in the phone’s settings menu, under the About section.

If the phone has a defective battery that might explode, the page will display a message prompting users to turn off the Smartphone immediately.

Even without the IMEI checker, Samsung still recommends that all users who bought the Galaxy Note 7 before Sept. 15 send it back for replacement.

Galaxy Note 7 replacement units will start arriving in the USA by Sept. 21, so users who decide to turn in their device after all will not have to wait too long until they receive a new one.

The exchange program has received approval from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and will cover Galaxy Note 7 units sold in the United States from August to Sept. 15, 2016.

To those who still feel reluctant about sending in their phones for replacement do not forget that exploding units recently set a jeep on fire, injured a 6-year-old, caused third-degree burns and more.

This means its better to be on the safer side and just send it in for replacement, or use the IMEI checker at least.
