Phishing is Nigeria’s biggest threat online – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has identified phishing as the biggest threat that Nigerians face online.

Mrs. Chinwe Ndubueze, the commission’s Assistant Legal Director, said phishing targets banks, banking customers and insiders also seek to access unauthorized information.

“The biggest threats Nigerians face on the Internet are phishing, which are targeting mostly local banks and their clients; unauthorized access to systems and the information they contain by insiders, service providers or consultants; and malware distribution such as software and hardware key-loggers,” she said.

However, the commission noted that the country is no longer a safe haven for cybercriminals; this it said follows the enactment of the Cybercrimes Act 2015 which is a series of new laws against Internet crimes.

According to media report, EFCC throwing its full weight behind the new momentum the law has triggered in enforcing and winning the war against cybercrimes and related offences in Nigeria.
