Nigerian government urged to create stable environment for startups to thrive

Panelists at the just concluded Social Media Week Lagos session focusing on startups have urged the Nigerian government to only focus on ensuring that it creates an environment for startups and other entrepreneurs operating in the country to thrive.

Members of the panel included Tomi Davies, CEO of TechnoVision, Ethel Cofie, Director of Edel Technologies, Delauno Hinson, an emerging markets investment professional, and Collins Onuegbo, Founder of Signal Alliance. They spoke on the importance of investing in African startups.

They spoke on the need to create a culture/ecosystem that values, supports and invests in technology and digital enterprises; they said efforts should be made to encourage the next generation of innovators even as the local investor community and angel investing continue to grow across the continent.

They noted that the purpose of technology is to achieve efficiency while startups are expected to identify problems and develop solutions for such problems that they’ve identified.
