NCC boss may get fired over the MTN fine saga

More issues are still arising with regards to the MTN N1.04 trillion fine and this time around it looks like someone may get fired (or not) on account of the issue. Lawyers under the umbrella of the Alliance for the Defence of Democracy have demanded the resignation of the Nigerian communications commissions (NCC) boss Professor Umar Danbata.

The organization made this pronouncement in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Mr Cletus Onwu and dated May 12, 2016.

According to the statement, members of the Alliance for the Defence of Democracy want the NCC boss to be sacked because of his role in negotiations that led to the reduction of MTN’s initial fine of $5.2 billion to $3.9 billion in December 2015.

In addition to that, the body also added that MTN’s actions have  contributed to the security issues in the country and it is for that reason too that they demand that Prof Umar Danbata be forced to vacate his office.

The lawyers also threatened to forward petitions aimed at criminal proceedings against him and have also lodged a complaint at the International Criminal Court in the Hague for facilitating crimes against humanity.

Haven said all that, it’s important to note that the Federal Government has suspended talks over the issue pending when the house of representative completes its investigation.

But really, can someone please tell me what the real issue with this fine saga really is? Looks to me like some people just want to make a point and aren’t really interested in what’s in the best interest of Nigerians. It is well oo.
