Moto G4 Play Review – a budget smartphone offering great value

Overtime the Moto G family has been known to deliver budget friendly phones, a new addition to the family member is the Moto G4 Play. The Moto G4 play is said to be the most affordable in the Moto G series, apparently not only in the Moto G series but one of the most affordable mid-range smartphone delivering great value.

Although the Moto G4 play has the same design with the Moto G4 and Moto G4 plus, it is smaller in size with 5’’HD display Corning Gorilla Glass 3 making it easy to operate with one hand. However, it gives vibrant viewing experience especially for those like me that love to watch movies on their mobile device. You can also play games but it might not be as clear as you would like.

One the other hand, the design looks like those of the high end Moto G series but the plastic back and overall design gives it up as a budget smartphone. One thing I find interesting is that you can share your phone with another user with a pre-installed app called the Moto Display, however, it probably has to be with another Moto G series device. The way this feature works is that you swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the icon at the top right hand of the screen.

Another feature of the device is the water-repellent nano-coating which protects it from spills, splashes, and even a little rain. I would advise that you keep your phone safe when there is a heavy down poor as the Moto G play device isn’t waterproof.

It has the power button and the volume rocker on the right-hand side while the charging port is beneath. There is a silver-rimmed speaker opening at the top. It is a dual SIM device with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 128GB using a Micro SD card.

Primary camera is pegged at 8MP with LED flash which takes reasonably stable quality picture, front camera is 5MP without a flash. Both front and back camera are fitted with autofocus feature.

The Moto G4 Play runs on Android 6.0 OS. You can multi-task, switch back and forth between your favorite games and movies, share videos or those funny memes on the go. Interestingly, it also runs at 4G speed which allows you stream and browse easily. I think it’s nice that the Moto G4 is 4G enabled, one would think that phones designed to have 4G would be super expensive.

The Moto G4 Play device comes with A 2,800mAh removable battery that can last for almost a full day maybe we preferably call it an all-day battery for a light user. Although the battery last longs, it does not charge fast.

The Moto G4 Play is a device that offers a great deal of value without putting a hole in your pocket, it does not offer those high end specs you expect to see on a premium smartphone but that doesn’t change the fact that its affordable and can literarily provide your more than basic smartphone need.
