Meet the new iPhone SE: small and mighty

After all the rumours, Apple finally announced its latest iPhone at the company’s just concluded Spring 2016 event. Called the iPhone SE, this new iPhone is a 4-inch beauty packed with (almost) all the juice of the iPhone 6. Thus making it one of the most powerful compact smartphones available.

Looking very much like the iPhone 5S, the iPhone SE is not just small and powerful but it’s also cheap (as far as iPhones are concerned anyway). Starting at only $399, this new iPhone comes with the cheapest launch price of any of Apple’s iPhones.

With its remarkable features, compact size and competitive price, many analyst believe this new iPhone is Apple’s shameless attempt at competing for greater market share in countries like China, India and other emerging markets where price is everything.

So what are the specs of the iPhone SE?

The iPhone SE comes in two models A 16GB model (which starts at $399) and a 64GB model (which starts at $499). Aside from the difference in the size of internal memory, both models have the same features.

These include;

  • 12MP rear camera
  • 4k and 240 fps slo-mo video recording
  • Live photos, which also turns photos into a 3-second clip
  • 64-bit A9 chip
  • Apple Pay
  • LTE
  • Wi-Fi Calling
  • And of course Siri

The iPhone SE doesn’t however come with 3D Touch.

It would be available for sale in the US, UK and Australia by March 31, after which it’ll be rolled out to 100 countries by the end of May. Pre-orders start March 24.

One more thing, the ‘SE’ in the ‘iPhone SE’ means Special Edition not something else. So forget all those noisy speculations on twitter. Cheers
