Meet the HTC 10: will this turn HTC’s smartphone sales fortunes?

HTC today launched its latest flagship smartphone called the HTC 10 and it turns out the promotional video we saw yesterday was the real deal.

The HTC 10 is a 5.2 inch, quad HD Super LCD display device. The front of the device is covered with a Gorilla glass that curves into the chamfered edges at the back of the device (like we saw in yesterday’s video). There’s only one physical button at the front which is the finger print scanner and its flanked on both sides by two capacitive touch buttons that light up when in use.

Also at the front of the device is a 5 MP front camera with optical image stabilization. HTC says the 10 is the only phone at the moment with its selfie camera having OIS.

The HTC 10 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM (similar to other high-end phones we’ve seen this year). It comes with 32 GB of internal memory, a microSD slot that can house a memory card of up to 2T and a 3,000mAh battery.

According to HTC, the software and hardware in the 10 have been optimized to be 50 percent more responsive than its predecessor the A9. And with regards to the battery, HTC also claims it can last for up to two days because of the same software and hardware optimizations. Keeping in line with other recently released flagships this year, the 10 comes with a USB Type-C port that supports Quick Charge 3.0.

With regards to sound, HTC added a new BoomSound Hi-Fi feature in the 10 that has a tweezer at the top and a woofer in the bottom. In addition this device is designed to up-scales all audio to 24-bit quality. Added to all that are the hi-res certified earbuds and the fact that HTC is licensing Apple’s Airplay to stream audio to more devices, and you’re sure to look forward to an awesome music listening experience with this device.

The HTC 10 is currently open for pre-order and once again I’m not sure when this device will be available for sale in Nigeria.

HTC’s previous flagship was a big flop and their sales figures and stock prices took a hit for it. It’ll thus be interesting to see if their latest addition is good enough to win old and new HTC fans alike.
