After series of leaks, Google has finally made official its new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphone. Packed with impressive specifications, Google claims the Pixel has the highest rated smartphone camera and a battery that can last a whole day.
Google picked up from where it stopped on the Nexus program where the company partnered with mobile manufacturers to bring the best of Android to smartphones, now with Pixel, Google has decided to take full credit of the whole hardware and software design.
The Pixel phone is made out of aluminium and glass and comes explicit with the “Phone by Google” branding, a signature statement to extensively prove that Google is in full control and ultimately assuring customers that they will get the full Google experience in the smartphone.
Both the Pixel and Pixel XL have thin bezel that gives the phone a near edge to edge display. They are differentiated by their size and screen resolution. The Pixel has a 5-inch and a 1080p full HD display while the Pixel XL has a 5.5-inch display size and a Quad HD panel.
There is a finger print sensor on the back, placed at a position that is easy to reach when holding the phone in one hand. The fingerprint sensor can also be used to access and scroll through notifications by swiping from the top to the bottom.
Google’s new Android N OS is present and also powered by the latest Snapdragon 821 processor. The Pixel also has a specialized version of Android software that supports the Daydream virtual reality platform.
The Pixel phone comes with 12.3MP camera, 1.55-micron pixels and a f/2.0 aperture. Google says the camera on the Pixel is the highest rated on any smartphone yet with a score of 89 in DxOMark benchmark. The pixel camera will allow you take sharp crisp and brilliant photos even in low light conditions.
Google is also including a free unlimited storage for original quality photos and videos at full resolution in Google Photos. Users will also have Google Duo and Allo pre-installed on the Pixel to video call and chat friends and families.
Internal storage comes in two options of 32GB or 128GB and bessed with 4GB of RAM.
Google Pixel users will also get the latest Android updates directly from Google when they are available.
Pixel also has a fast charging feature that gives 7 hours of battery power after 15 minutes of charge. Battery capacity is 2,770mAh.
Pixel is available for pre-order at $649 in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Germany and Australia. Pre-orders in India will begin October 13. No words about when it will be available in Nigeria.
