Facebook received Lawsuit from former pornstar Paree La’Tiejira (aka Lady Paree) who alleged that it’s founder Mark Zuckerberg, played a part in ruining her porn career.
Paree In her suit, claims Zuckerberg did nothing to stop the false reports that she was born male from circulating on Facebook, resulting in her inability to get work.
Having received death threats on the social media network and fruitlessly trying to end the rumor, Paree is seeking $1 billion in damages, accusing the social media site and its CEO of libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
This is not the first time Paree is accusing parties of such rumors. In 2009 she sued Leisure Time Entertainment and its producer Mark Carriere alleging that the adult entertainment company and its producer made false, defamatory statements claiming she was born a hermaphrodite.
She won the suit and was awarded $2.5 million in compensation for damages and $50,000 in punitive damages.
Paree claims the rumors on Facebook had caused some fans to assault her, and she now at risk of violent encounters.
Paree’s lawyer said:
Such intentional, malicious, or grossly negligent publication by defendants has caused her economic and compensatory damages, as well as emotional distress and physical pain so severe that she has had to seek professional assistance to cope with the damages caused by Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg
