Facebook Live connects you to your favourite celebrities

Staying up to date with what’s happening in the lives of our favorite celebrities is now easier than ever. With platforms like Twitter and Instagram providing us with stuff like the Meek vs Drake drama and Alicia Keys dancing to Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba” and Skales’ “Shake Body”, today’s stars have practically become our next door neighbours.

In keeping with the trend of bringing public figures closer to their fans, Facebook released the Facebook Mentions app in July 2015. According to Allison Swope, Facebook Mentions product manager, Facebook Mentions “makes it easy for public figures to talk with their fans and each other on the go. It’s a better way for actors, athletes, musicians and other influencers to stay in touch with their fans and the people and things they care about”.  At the initial stage Mentions will only be available for people with verified Pages in the US. But there are plans to roll out to more countries and verified Profiles in subsequent months.

However, in the interim before Facebook Mentions rolls out in Nigeria, other features are being added to make the app more engaging. One of such features is called Live; described by Vadim Lavrusik, Product Manager for Live asa new way for public figures to share live video from Mentions with their fans on Facebook. With Live, public figures can take fans behind the scenes; host a Q&A, share announcements, and more — all in real time.”

Also, in the coming days, Live broadcasts from Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Serena WilliamsLuke BryanRicardo KakaAshley TisdaleLester HoltMartha StewartMichael Bublé and more public figures are expected.

So now we’re looking forward to more cool stuff from our favourite stars’ Facebook pages and waiting for when our verified Nigerian celebs get access to the Facebook Mentions. Hope it happens soon.
