Patent war: Apple demands more money from Samsung

There seems to be no end in sight for the patent war between Apple and its No. 1 competitor, as Apple demands for even more money.

Only a few weeks ago, Samsung paid Apple $548 million for infringing on some of the iPhone’s patents and design. Now, Apple has asked a U.S court to demand that Samsung pay an additional $180 million.

According to a recent filing from a court, Apple says Samsung owes it supplemental damages for continued infringement, plus interest. According to Reuters, these additional damages are with regard to five Samsung devices which Apple says have infringed on their patents and were sold after a jury found Samsung liable in 2012.

While a new trial will begin in 2016 related to the damages from the original trial, Samsung has however asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case, insisting that Apple’s compensation is too much considering the patents involved.

The high court would first have to decide if it will accept the case for review.
